Xi Jinping calls for united efforts to promote development
Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed the BRICS Plus dialogue on the second day of the BRICS summit. The Chinese leader urged the meeting participants to work together to build an international consensus on promoting development.
"It is important that we put development at the top of the international agenda, implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and reach a political consensus," Xi said.
The politician stressed the need to create an enabling international environment for development that is open to emerging economies.
"We need to really seriously and coherently promote development, build an open global economy, shape a global governance system and institutional environment that is fairer and more equitable," the Chinese leader said.
Xi also mentioned that innovation is the main driver of development.
"It is important that we promote scientific, technological and institutional innovation, accelerate technology transfer and knowledge sharing, boost modern industry, bridge the digital divide and accelerate the transition to low-carbon technologies to achieve a stronger, greener and healthier global development," the Chinese president said.
In addition, the politician expressed confidence in the need to forge a global development partnership together.
"Only by working together can we accomplish great and great things. Developed countries must honour commitments, developing countries must deepen cooperation," Xi said.
He added that China will work with all parties to promote cooperation in priority areas and mobilise resources for development to deepen global cooperation to reduce and eradicate poverty, build capacity for food production and supply and promote clean energy partnerships.
