29 countries sign agreement to establish World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation in Shanghai

Twenty-nine countries have signed an agreement in Shanghai to establish the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO). This was reported by Belt and Road News Network (BRNN), a partner of TV BRICS.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of states and international organisations, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The agreement states that WAICO will be an independent intergovernmental body headquartered in Shanghai.

Representatives from 29 countries, including Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Zhaslan Madiyev, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, Maksim Oreshkin, and Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, signed an agreement under which these states become founding members of the organisation, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

The members also include Belarus, Brazil, Cuba, Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Oman, South Africa, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China and others, according to a press release from Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Digital Technology.

According to official information, WAICO will operate on the basis of the principles of the UN Charter, prioritising human interests and the creation of mechanisms for the global governance of AI.
