A dog in the house as a vitamin for mental ailments
The risk of schizophrenia is sharply reduced in humans if they grew up with animals in their childhood. This amazing fact was found out by scientists at Johns Hopkins University during their studies. They found a link between the presence of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and keeping dogs in the house, the correspondent of tvbrics.com reports with reference to tdnu.ru.
Researchers at the Medical faculty found that if dogs lived in the home for the first 13 years of children's lives, then these children have a much healthier psyche than their peers, and the risk of schizophrenia is 24 percent lower. But the highest effect of protecting children from possible mental ailments was found in families where children up to 3 years old communicated with dogs.
In total, 396 patients with schizophrenia, 381 patients with bipolar disorder and 594 mentally healthy people took part in the experiment. All information about contacts of experimental subjects up to 13 years of age with pets was collected.
