A New Type of Training in Brazil: Military and Civil Schools Will Open for Children

New types of out-of-class activities are provided in sports, culture, competitions, and social programs

Since 2020, Brazilian Ministry of Education will implement of one of its main programs - creation of military and civil schools, a tvbrics.com correspondent reports with the reference to mec.gov.br, the official site of the Ministry of Education of Brazil.

The new model was developed with the purpose of the country’s secondary basic education quality improvement. This reform is supposed to diversify the out-of-schoollife of Brazilian students.

It is difficult to explain to Russians, but until recently, educational institutions in Brazil had hardly had any additional education for students, except for private and boarding schools. But from now on, Brazilian school students will have an opportunity to try something new with inclusive personal development. In addition, the new program will attract additional financing to the educational sector and help Brazilian leaders fight against illiteracy and social inequality.

"The school should guarantee various out-of-class events, which can be offered by the faculty, methodologists or other members of a school community", the document mentions.

New types of out-of-class activities are provided in sports, culture, competitions, and social programs. In particular, taking sports will be encouraged in every possible way to attract boys’ and girls’ mass interest in sports and healthy lifestyle.

Literature and sports clubs are to open everywhere, as well as additional courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, robotics, open art and theater schools, orchestras and choruses, international clubs and language courses — and this is only a part of all after-school activities for children to be introduced at schools since 2020.

As noted by Daiel Menezes, the employee of the Ministry of Education of Brazil, in his article, the schools with a new education model should encourage students to participate in competitions. What is more, the establisment of military and civil schools is meant tourge teachers and students to participate in social programs and activities designed to improve the living conditions of the people. Such projects should cultivate solidarity and ability to sympathize in students.

All new programs are included in the document on creation of military and civil schools prepared by the Ministry of Education of Brazil for the local authorities of states and municipalities participating in the National Civic-Military Schools Program.
