Abu Dhabi launches coral reef cultivation project around a nuclear power plant

Environmentalists and nuclear specialists join forces to protect the marine environment

Half a million coral colonies are planned to be cultivated in the waters surrounding the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the UAE over the next three years. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

One of the main objectives of the project is to create special nurseries for cultivating coral that is resistant to high temperatures. This will help preserve and increase marine biodiversity in the region.

According to the source, this project is an important step in Abu Dhabi’s programme to protect marine ecosystems. The initiative not only preserves corals but also supports international efforts in this area by using the best technologies and advancing scientific research.

Experts emphasised that preserving the marine environment is one of the main priorities. The project will strengthen the resilience of coral reefs to climate change and support Abu Dhabi’s status as a global centre for marine ecosystem protection.

This project will become part of a larger national programme to plant 4 million corals by 2030. The survival rate of transplanted corals after the summer season reached 95 per cent, and fish numbers in these areas increased by 50 per cent.
