Actors from South Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Caribbean to arrive in Russia

From 25 August to 3 October 2025, the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) will host the InteRussia fellowship programme in the field of theatrical arts for young actors from BRICS+ countries. The project is being implemented jointly with the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, the TV BRICS International Media Network, Rossotrudnichestvo, and the Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation "Mezhdunarodniki", with the support of the Presidential Grants Foundation under the "New Generation" programme.

During a press conference, GITIS Rector Grigory Zaslavsky shared his top priorities for the fellowship.

"The happiness of a patriot lies in the fact that after a week or a month, interns from India and South Africa continued to post photos from Red Square and shared their sharp, still fresh impressions about the discoveries that their studies in Moscow gave them," he commented.

According to Zaslavsky, in 2024 the participants presented sketches based on Chekhov's "The Seagull".

"It must be said that all those who witnessed the show appreciated this work. And that is, of course, the most precious thing for us," the Rector added.

Zaslavsky noted that fellowship participants themselves propose ideas for improving actor training methods. He added that students from India noted the absence of materials on the methodology of theatrical director Vsevolod Meyerhold in English and suggested publishing them.

Aleksandra Burman, Director of the International Cooperation Department of TV BRICS, in turn, emphasised that the project is of interest to audiences in various countries.

"The effect of the fellowship continues afterwards. The programme's alumni still communicate with each other, sharing their achievements. Last year, two students from China participated, and they attended each other's performances," she said.

Burman noted that this year TV BRICS has informed more than 60 partner organisations in 15 countries about the event.

"As a result of last year's fellowship, the TV BRICS editorial team prepared a documentary film called 'Worthy of Applause'. It turned out to be very lively, interesting content. It is now available in six languages: Russian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and Arabic," she said.

The press conference was also attended by Sergey Orlov, Deputy Executive Director of the Gorchakov Fund, and Ekaterina Torubarova, Head of the Public Diplomacy Department at Rossotrudnichestvo.
