Agricultural exports of South Africa grow by 10% in first quarter of this year

Increased supply volumes and employment in the sector were the driving factors behind this growth

According to the South African Ministry of Agriculture, exports for January-March 2025 amounted to US$3.36 billion, which is 10 per cent higher than in the same period in 2024. This was reported by Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.

It is noted that the growth in exports was driven by increased supplies of grapes, corn, apples and wine to foreign markets. Prices for agricultural products also increased, which had a positive impact on export revenues.

At the same time, employment in primary agriculture in the first quarter grew by 1 per cent (to 930,000 people) compared to the fourth quarter of 2024.

The country's Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen, emphasised that the successes were made possible by the efforts of farmers and the entire industry chain.
