Anvisa approved a new drug against the virus that causes AIDS
The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) has approved a new treatment for HIV, virus that causes AIDS. Rede TV!, partner of the TV BRICS network, reports.
According to the Regulatory Agency, the drug called Dovato is lamivudine and dolutegravir sodium combined in one pill, which improves both, the treatment and the patient adherence.
The Agency stated, “This approval represents a breakthrough in treatment of the virus that causes AIDS for people, since it combines two antiretroviral drugs in a daily dose that previously were not in one pill.”
The drug is prescribed as a complete regimen for the treatment of HIV infection in patients over 12 years old and 40 kilograms. The patient should also not have a past medical history of “previous antiretroviral treatment and the drug should not be used as a replacement for the current antiretroviral regimen in virologically suppressed people.”
