Archaeologists discover unique Ptolemaic era tombs in Egypt

The finds include vivid inscriptions, ritual texts, and mummies

An archaeological expedition has uncovered many Ptolemaic tombs in the Bahnasah archaeological area in Minya. The finds include vivid inscriptions, ritual texts, mummies, skeletal remains, tombs and a collection of gold artefacts.

Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, described the find as unprecedented. The finds include 13 gold tongues and nails from mummies.

Hassan Ibrahim Amer, director of the excavation and member of the Faculty of Archaeology at Cairo University, emphasised the significance of the heart scarab found in its place inside the mummy. Also found were 29 amulets bearing the Djed symbol, scarabs representing deities such as Horus, Thoth, and Isis, as well as amulets combining the attributes of these gods.

The ceilings of one of the chamber were decorated with a celestial scene of the goddess Nut surrounded by stars and sacred ships with the gods Khepri, Ra and Atum. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The discovery provides new insights into the religious and cultural practices of the Ptolemaic period, further enriching the understanding of ancient Egyptian history.
