Argentina leads regional air traffic growth in 2025
Latin America and the Caribbean record 477.3 million passengers as intraregional travel drives expansion
Argentina posted the strongest percentage growth in air traffic across Latin America and the Caribbean in 2025, reaching 33.3 million passengers, up 13.2 per cent year on year, equivalent to an additional 3.9 million travellers. Domestic traffic totalled 17.4 million passengers (+9.1 per cent), while international traffic rose to 15.9 million (+18.2 per cent), supported by expanded connectivity.
Across Latin America and the Caribbean, total passenger traffic reached 477.3 million in 2025, marking a 3.8 per cent annual increase, or 17.5 million additional passengers. According to the source, 84 per cent of net growth was generated by intraregional operations, as reported by Diario La R, a TV BRICS partner.
Flight supply expanded by 2 per cent, while seat capacity increased by 3.1 per cent, with an average of 160 seats per flight. In December alone, traffic rose 5.4 per cent year on year to 44.3 million passengers.
Other BRICS countries are strengthening civil aviation to boost connectivity and economic growth.
According to Brazil government’s website, civil aviation in Southern Brazil posted strong results in 2025, reinforcing sector recovery and expanding regional connectivity. Airports in Porto Alegre, Curitiba and Florianopolis handled over 18 million passengers, with Florianopolis recording the highest growth in three years at 52.6 per cent. Strategic routes and regional hubs strengthened the air network, supporting tourism, business, and regional trade.
Meanwhile, in the UAE, the airport in Dubai handled 95.2 million passengers in 2025, a 3.1 per cent increase year on year, marking its busiest year on record and the highest international passenger volume globally, reports the Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS. The airport set new daily, monthly and quarterly records, with December alone welcoming 8.7 million passengers (+6.1 per cent). Total flights reached 454,800 for the year, up 3.3 cent. The results highlight the airport’s operational resilience and efficiency.
In Egypt, the airport in Cairo reported strong growth in January 2026, handling 2,996,606 passengers, up from 2,635,041 in January 2025, representing an annual increase of around 14 per cent. Total flights rose to 21,044, a 14 per cent year-on-year increase, reflecting operational efficiency and high-quality passenger services, reports Sada el-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS. The airport highlighted that the sustained growth aligns with strategic directives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, reinforcing the airport’s role as Egypt’s primary gateway and a major regional aviation hub.
