Azerbaijan applies to join BRICS

Earlier Baku's ambassador to Moscow spoke about its desire to join the association


Azerbaijan has submitted an official application to join BRICS. This was announced by Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aykhan Hajizada to the Report News Agency

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a two-day state visit to Baku. Vladimir Putin and leader of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held talks and signed several documents.

"In October, we will be happy to see Ilham Heydarovich at the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Moscow, as well as at the outreach meeting to be held in the framework of the BRICS summit in Kazan this October"

BRICS has gone through two waves of expansion since its founding in 2006. In 2011, South Africa joined the original membership, which included Brazil, Russia, India and China. Since 1 January 2024, Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia have also become part of the association.
