Belarus aims to double tourism’s contribution to national GDP

Minsk outlines plans for deeper regional cooperation and expanded joint initiatives with Russia

Belarus has set a target to double the contribution of the tourism sector to the country’s GDP, a priority outlined for the next five years. The statement was made in Minsk by the Head of the Presidential Administration, Dmitry Krutoi, during a meeting of the High-Level Group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State. This is reported by BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to Krutoi, Belarus intends to intensify cooperation in tourism within the Union State framework, emphasising the importance of engaging in ongoing Russian programmes for developing tourist infrastructure and utilising preferential financing mechanisms for joint initiatives. He stressed that tourism has been designated a national priority, and effective collaboration with Russian partners will be central to achieving planned growth.

Regional cooperation remains a cornerstone of Belarus–Russia economic interaction, with the pace of contacts remaining consistently high. Over the first ten months of the year, Belarus hosted 66 delegations led by regional heads or their deputies from across Russia, 18 of which held meetings with the President of Belarus. In the same period, Belarusian representatives completed 88 working visits to Russian regions, underscoring the intensity of bilateral engagement.

The Union State continues work on shaping a common scientific and technological space, including joint efforts to create a high-resolution Earth observation satellite and an integrated remote-sensing system. These projects are among the key areas of long-term cooperation.

The meeting also included discussion of improving cooperation in the field of mobile communications, with Belarus expressing confidence that a solution reflecting the interests of citizens of both states will be achieved.
