Booming robotics industry portrays China's intelligent future

New products developed in China drive the development of the global pneumatic industry

The World Robot Conference 2021, themed "Inject Momentum and Share Results to Build a Win-win Collaboration Society," concluded in Beijing on Monday.

Ma Qinghai, general manager of SMC Investment Management China Co., Ltd. said at the conference that with the rapid development of China's robotics industry, many new demands and application scenarios have emerged, forcing SMC to develop new technologies and products.

In 1994, SMC invested and built factories in China, and 80 to 90 percent of its products were exported. However, it is now mainly providing supporting services for the Chinese market, and 60 percent of its products are supplied to automation and robot-related industries led by semiconductors, new energy and biomedicine.

"The new products developed in China are then pushed to the world, driving the development of the global pneumatic industry. The vigorous development of China's robot industry brings good development opportunities to SMC. Nowadays, our products are in short supply, and sales increased by over 50 percent from January to August this year," said Ma.

More than 110 enterprises and scientific research institutions brought more than 500 products to the exhibition, focusing on cutting-edge achievements and new products in the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain and related fields.

An orthopedic surgery robot attracted many attendees at the conferences. Under the guidance of an optical tracking system, staff controlled the robot's mechanical arm through a computer console to demonstrate surgery on a model of the human spine.
