Brazil adopts programme to stimulate green hydrogen production

The initiative aims to ensure energy transition and sustainable development

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has signed a law to stimulate the production of green hydrogen. This is reported by Metropoles, a partner of TV BRICS.

Brazilian Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (MDIC), Geraldo Alckmin, also participated in the adoption of the document approving the Low Carbon Hydrogen Production Promotion Programme.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring the country's energy transition and creating a market for clean fuels.

It envisages measures to encourage the use of green hydrogen in industries such as fertiliser and building materials, chemicals, steel, and trucking.

In particular, tax incentives are envisaged for producers and consumers of low-carbon hydrogen. The amount of the preferences will be determined each year.

Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power, biofuels, and recycled waste. Its use is considered a possible solution to the problem of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
