Brazil and Ethiopia strengthen agriculture and energy partnership within BRICS group

Brazil's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Jandyr Ferreira dos Santos, said there is significant potential for strengthening relations between the countries. This is reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

“Ethiopia’s growing economic and strategic position in Africa can present new opportunities for collaboration with Brazil and other member countries within the BRICS,” the ambassador said.

Jandyr Ferreira dos Santos noted that Brazil has rich experience in tropical agriculture and food production and can share its knowledge and technology with Ethiopia to increase agricultural production.

“Brazil, with its advanced expertise in tropical agriculture and food production, could strengthen its partnership with Ethiopia to share knowledge, technology, and best practices to enhance agricultural outputs,” the ambassador said, adding that the countries can work together on technical cooperation projects aimed at strengthening South-South partnership, technology transfer, and sustainable development initiatives.

Both countries are also committed to sustainable development and promotion of renewable energy. Joint efforts in this area can include research projects, knowledge sharing, and cooperation among BRICS countries in green energy technologies.

“Our countries can use the BRICS platform to collaborate on addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and public health,” the ambassador emphasised.

Santos also noted that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's state visit to Ethiopia last February symbolised the strengthening of ties between the two countries and underlined Brazil's recognition of Ethiopia's strategic importance on the world stage. 

According to the ambassador, the countries intend to expand and deepen cooperation in several areas, including trade, investment, and technology transfer.
