Brazil announces US$589 million investment to boost innovation and research infrastructure

The resources will be allocated to the expansion of the National Science and Technology Institute Programme

The Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, alongside the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the Funding Agency for Studies and Projects (FINEP), has unveiled a US$589 million investment package. These funds will strengthen Brazil's innovation and research infrastructure, particularly in underdeveloped regions. This is reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

The resources will be allocated to the expansion of the National Science and Technology Institute Programme (INCT) and the Green-Yellow Technological Parks project set up to foster innovation, research, and development by creating a network of technology parks designed to support industries that are knowledge-based and innovation-driven. These investments aim to reduce disparities in Brazil’s innovation environment, focusing on the North, Northeast, and Midwest regions.

During the announcement at the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), Luciana Santos, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, highlighted the importance of these investments for regional development. She emphasised that this funding will elevate Brazilian science to new levels, contributing to the nation's growth and development.
