Brazil intends to present green energy projects at COP27
Brazilian Environment Minister Joaquim Leite told the A Voz do Brasil programme that the country already produces a lot of clean energy, including wind, solar and biomass, and still has the potential to expand it.
"Brazil has broken the record for onshore wind power - 21 gigawatts (GW). To give you an idea, the installed capacity of "Itaipu" is 14 GW. <...> Solar power is also 14 GW. These sources are essential for developing and generating the clean energy that everyone is looking for," he said. "On top of all this, we have 50 special devices that can be installed at sea and all this surplus energy can be converted into hydrogen and "green" ammonia for export," the minister added.
According to Leite, Brazil will use COP27, the next UN conference on climate change to be held in Egypt in November, to present these investment opportunities in the country.
The Minister of the Environment said that Brazil will have a 300 square metre stand and will present projects in the fields of green energy, industry and sustainable agriculture.
In the interview, Leite also spoke about the federal government's proposal to set up a vehicle fleet renewal programme in the country as a way of stimulating the industry and putting more energy-efficient cars into circulation. Rede TV!, a partner of the TV BRICS network, writes about this.
