Brazil launches initiative to boost teacher training and education quality

The initiative is set to benefit 2.3 million educators

The Brazilian Ministry of Education has unveiled the Pé-de-Meia Licenciatura programme aimed at enhancing the professional development of basic education teachers and encouraging new talent to pursue teaching careers.

The initiative is set to benefit 2.3 million educators, significantly improving the quality of education for 47.3 million students across the country. This is reported by TV Cultura, a partner of TV BRICS.

A central feature of the programme is financial support for both aspiring and current teachers. University students enrolled in teaching degrees will receive monthly scholarships during the standard duration of their courses.

The initiative also targets high-achieving students in the National High School Exam by providing financial incentives to encourage enrolment, retention, and graduation in teaching degrees.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva attended the launch ceremony and highlighted the government’s commitment to investing in education and ensuring access to high-quality teaching across the nation.
