Brazil records 68.3 million domestic air passengers in 2026
Domestic passenger traffic rose by 4 per cent from January to August, while international travel also reached new highs

Brazil recorded 68.3 million passengers on domestic flights between January and August 2026, according to data from the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) compiled by the Ministry of Tourism. The figure represents a 4 per cent increase compared with the 65.8 million passengers recorded during the same period in 2025. This was reported by Metrópoles, a partner of TV BRICS.
August also set a new record for domestic air travel, with 8.93 million passengers flying within the country. The figure was 2.3 per cent higher than the 8.73 million passengers recorded in August 2025.
International air traffic continued to grow as well. A total of 20.3 million passengers travelled on international routes during the first eight months of the year, an 8 per cent increase from the 18.9 million recorded in the same period of 2025. In August alone, international passenger traffic reached 2.53 million, up 3.4 per cent year on year.
Combined domestic and international air travel accounted for 88.7 million passengers in Brazil between January and August, compared with 84.7 million a year earlier. This represents a 5 per cent increase and reflects the continued expansion of passenger mobility in the country.
The growth in air traffic coincided with strong international tourism. Brazil welcomed 6.45 million international tourists during the first eight months of 2026, maintaining the record level reached in the previous year. In August, 576,300 international visitors arrived in the country, marking the highest figure for the month since records began in 2009.
