Brazil’s Ministry of Education launches national literacy training for 31,000 teachers in the Northern Region
The Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC), through its state Compromisso Nacional Crianca Alfabetizada (CNCA) programme, has initiated literacy-focused training for over 31,000 early childhood education teachers across Brazil's northern states.
This initiative aims to enhance literacy skills in children across five states and 449 municipalities, ultimately reaching 225,000 teachers nationwide by the end of 2024. This is reported by the official website of the Brazilian Government.
With a total investment of US$16.67 million, US$6.18 million has been allocated specifically for the North, covering logistics for educators from remote Amazon communities. The training programme, encompassing 120 hours of literacy and language development practices, encourages an interactive learning environment, emphasising children’s engagement with language and culture.
Director of Teacher Training, Lourival Martins, emphasised that the materials are tailored to reflect Amazonia's socio-cultural diversity, enhancing inclusivity.
