Brazil's women's national team wins Copa América
The Brazilian women's national football team beat Colombia 1-0 to win the America Cup. Rede TV!, a partner of the TV BRICS network, writes about this.
The yellow-greens already have eight titles in nine tournaments. The final was played at the Alfonso López Stadium in Bucaramanga, Colombia.
The only goal of the final was scored by midfielder Debinha on a penalty kick in the 38th minute of the first half.
In addition to qualifying for the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 Olympics, the victory at the America's Cup marked the success of a new generation of Brazilian women's football. For the first time since 1995, Brazil did not have any of the stars of the Cristiane-Formiga-Marta trio in the international competition.
As a result, several other female players took advantage of the tournament to make a name for themselves. Among the midfield players, Duda Santos and Angelina stood out. Striker Adriana, the Cup's second top scorer with five goals, despite being in the main team since 2017, was able to perform well in the yellow and green jersey for the first time since she was injured during the 2019 World Cup and the 2020 Olympics.
The involvement of the defence is particularly noteworthy. Brazil have not conceded a goal in six games. National coach Pia Sundhage said the team has room to develop, especially when facing higher level opponents.
"The final wasn't as pretty. We were able to hold the lead when Colombia created chances. It was important not to concede a goal during the match, but from a tactical point of view, we know that we need to improve. Sometimes players come off the bench and change the game, but sometimes this does not happen. We will work to improve," she said at the post-match press conference.
