Brazil to improve infrastructure of Santos Dumont airport
The flow of foreign tourists to Rio de Janeiro has increased by 20 per cent this year
Investments of 400 million Brazilian reals (more than 6.3 billion rubles) will be directed to improve the infrastructure of Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro. The announcement was made by Brazil's Minister of Ports and Airports Silvio Costa Filho, as reported by Agencia CMA, a partner of TV BRICS.
The funding is expected to increase passenger traffic, improve flight safety and aircraft ground speeds, and improve the air harbour terminal.
"We have embarked on a major investment plan that will improve the entire infrastructure of Santos Dumont Airport so that we can welcome more tourists arriving in Rio de Janeiro," the minister said.
The investment will focus, among other things, on the implementation of the Engineered Material Arresting System to reduce the likelihood of accidents. In addition, it is planned to reconstruct and expand airport lounges, replace escalators and lifts, install a new baggage screening system and much more.
Filho also pointed out that the number of tourists from foreign countries coming to Rio de Janeiro has increased by more than 20 per cent this year. He said the Brazilian government will continue to focus on aviation development.
