Brazilian Army Uses Drones In Anti-Aircraft Exercises
The Brazilian Army’s second anti-aircraft artillery group participated in Sagitta Primus 2021 operation. The Delta Eclipse drones, manufactured by a Brazilian company Brasil Aircraft, with a total weight of 14 kilograms (31 pounds) and a maximum speed of 280 km/h (174 mph), were used to calibrate the guidance systems of the Gepard armoured vehicle. This was reported by ASAS.
The objective was to enable anti-aircraft groups and batteries to fire in order to support the Land Forces in defence of critical infrastructure and in air defence of troops and facilities in the combat zone. Sabre M60 radar was also used. The military exercise in Brazil also included real firing of both missile models and Gepard vehicle.
The Russian-made 9K338 Igla-S missile has a maximum range of 6 kilometres against targets flying at up to 3.5 kilometres. The previous version of this weapon has a long track record. The version currently in use by the Brazilian Army has a longer range and an improved infrared target search system.
