Brazilian President Lula da Silva and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi meet in Cairo

The two sides concluded a number of agreements

In Cairo, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah el-Sisi signed bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries in several key sectors. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

These include a protocol to promote the export of beef, pork and poultry meat from Brazil to Egypt, as well as a memorandum of understanding on co-operation in science, technology and innovation.

The signed protocol establishes a meat inspection system, known as "pre-listing", which simplifies and speeds up the process of exporting products to Egypt. Prior to this agreement, in-person audits were required to renew the qualifications of Brazilian companies, resulting in high costs and limiting the number of companies eligible to export. Thanks to the pre-audit, Brazilian certified companies will be automatically recognised by Egypt.

Egypt, one of the world's main importers of Brazilian beef and poultry, thus demonstrates the strength and sustainability of this relationship.

In addition to the agricultural sector, Lula da Silva's visit also contributed to strengthening partnerships in science, technology and innovation.

A memorandum of understanding in this area was signed by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Luciana Santos and a representative of the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The agreement aims to promote bilateral co-operation between companies, universities and research institutes in both countries.

"Egypt's accession to BRICS will strengthen the developing states that are part of this association"

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva Brazilian President

Brazilian President Lula da Silva's visit to Cairo comes on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Egypt joined the alliance as full members on 1 January this year, along with Iran, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
