The 11th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting has concluded in Bhopal, India. Following the meeting, the participants adopted the Bhopal Declaration, which provides for the expansion of cooperation in the field of culture and the creative industries. This was reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
The event was attended by representatives from 14 countries: the 10 BRICS member states and four partner countries. These included Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as Belarus, Cuba, Kazakhstan, and Thailand. A total of 55 delegates took part in the meetings.
The declaration provides for the exchange of experience and best practices in the field of cultural and creative industries, support for cultural practitioners, and the expansion of market access through digital tools. Specific provisions of the document are devoted to cooperation within the framework of UNESCO, research into the provenance and return of cultural property, and the protection of traditional knowledge systems and cultural forms of expression. The countries also agreed to develop cooperation between museums, libraries and archives in the field of digitisation and the preservation of documentary heritage.
In addition, the meeting’s participants focused on copyright protection when works are used in artificial intelligence systems, transparency and fair remuneration for rights holders.
India announced the launch of a pilot project to establish a voluntary register of artists and other creative professionals. It is expected to promote cultural exchanges and expand professional opportunities for artists.
The BRICS Culture Festival was also held in Bhopal on 6–7 August. It was attended by representatives from the BRICS countries and partner states, including Belarus, Brazil, Indonesia, Russia, and the UAE.
India assumed the BRICS chairmanship on 1 January 2026, under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability".
