BRICS Film Festival in Brazil shows film about young Russian composers

After watching the TV BRICS film "Partitura. Young Music of Russia", viewers will be able to exchange opinions with the heads of the media network’s international projects

As part of the annual BRICS Film Festival at the Federal University for Latin American Integration (UNILA, Brazil), a screening of the TV BRICS documentary "Partitura. Young Music of Russia" will take place.

An online discussion with the audience is scheduled to follow the screening. It will be attended by TV BRICS International Projects Coordinators Svetlana Shlyubul and Evgeniya Syrova.

“The aim of our festivals is to foster a closer acquaintance with the culture of each of the BRICS countries, which will undoubtedly contribute to building a shared identity and encouraging international cooperation in the modern world. Due to the expansion of the group, last year we decided to showcase films only from the new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE and Iran. This year, we are showing films from the founding members – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – as well as from the new member, Indonesia. The session dedicated to this country will be the only one held in person at UNILA, while the others will take place online and will be open to all interested viewers,” said the event organiser, UNILA lecturer Fabio Borges.

The film festival has been held since 2020 by the BRICS Research Laboratory together with the BRICS Research Group (Federal University of Pernambuco). Its aim is to promote the culture of the BRICS countries and deepen the understanding of their realities. This year, from 10 to 12 December, a total of six sessions will take place at the festival.

The team behind "Partitura. Young Music of Russia" includes director Ivan Zakharenko, scriptwriter Elena Pogarskaya, director of photography Artem Markov, and executive producer Nina Zimakova. The film was produced with the participation of the TV BRICS partner, the Russian State TV and Radio Music Centre “Orpheus”.

According to Zakharenko, the documentary explores the profession of the composer and the place of young authors in the contemporary music industry. At the heart of the narrative are the participants and winners of the “Partitura” competition, who share their views on the challenges of the profession and the significance of symphonic music today. Their opinions are complemented – and sometimes challenged – by well-known Russian and foreign composers as well as honoured cultural figures.

In 2023, the BRICS Film Festival in Brazil opened with the film "Gold" (2022) from the TV BRICS international documentary series on the development of Russia’s mining industry.
