BRICS Friendship Cities Cooperation Forum ends in China
The BRICS Friendship Cities and Local Authorities Cooperation Forum has come to an end in Beijing. The theme of the event was "Solidarity for common development". This was reported by RIA Novosti.
The Forum participants agreed that against the backdrop of current political and economic events, it is necessary to strengthen mutual trust and establish coordination. Shen Yueyue, deputy chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, urged states to adhere to dialogue rather than confrontation.
"We must urge countries to firmly support each other in matters related to their core interests and serious problems, and practice a true multilateral approach," the Chinese politician stressed. She added that the BRICS countries should be more active in promoting global security initiatives.
Other participants of the event agreed with Shen Yueyue's words. The Forum touched on the prospects for developing trade and investment cooperation between the alliance countries.
Siddharth Chatterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in China, called the ongoing event an important step towards exploring the possibilities.
"We welcome the intensified efforts, including by the BRICS countries, to develop partnerships and continue development cooperation," he said.
In addition, Siddharth Chatterjee noted that the BRICS countries should work to mobilise resources for developing countries, as they are the most vulnerable in the current environment, given the issue of food security. The forum also called for multilateral international cooperation based on mutual respect and equality.
Vasily Orlov, Governor of the Amur Region, represented Russia at the Forum. This was reported by the Regnum news agency.
In his address, he emphasised the importance of cooperation with China in the transport and logistics sectors, and also mentioned cooperation in the energy and gas chemistry sectors. The head of the region expressed his readiness to implement joint projects with the BRICS countries. Orlov also said it was important to develop partnerships in the tourism sector.
Recall that the BRICS tourism ministers met on Monday, 19 September.
