Chile adopts plan to protect the Easter Island ecosystem
Chile's Ministry of Environment has adopted an Integrated Management Plan for the Rapa Nui Marine Protected Area to protect the region's ecosystem. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
The area is located in the South Pacific Ocean and is known as Easter Island.
The document was drafted with the participation of members of the government, as well as representatives of local authorities and the island's population. The Minister of the Environment, Maisa Rojas, and the head of the State Fisheries Office, Juan Santibanez, supported this environmental initiative.
Rapanui is part of Chile's central Valparaiso region, but is considered one of the most remote islands in the world. Despite this geographical location, the archipelago is a popular tourist destination, known worldwide for its ancient stone statues. In 1995, Easter Island was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
