China and Cuba sign agreement to install photovoltaic parks on the island

Components for the assembly of new solar power plants will be delivered to Cuba within seven months

Authorities in China and Cuba have signed an investment agreement to jointly implement a renewable energy project. The initiative involves the installation of seven photovoltaic parks with a capacity of 5 megawatts each in six Cuban provinces. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

The corresponding document was signed by Chinese Ambassador in Havana Hua Xin and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba Carlos Luis Jorge. The deputy head of the ministry thanked the Chinese side for its support in the social and economic development of the country.

"I hope this project using Chinese technology will help Cuba ensure energy security and switch to renewable energy," Hua Xin said.

It is noted that the components for the assembly of solar power plants will be delivered to the island by sea within seven months.

According to representatives of the Cuban energy sector, photovoltaic parks will save up to 18 thousand tonnes of fuel annually, which is equivalent to US$7 million.
