China discovers tomb that is about 5,000 years old

More than 350 objects were found during excavations

In the Wangzhuang ruins in the city of Yongcheng, researchers found a tomb, the age of which is about 5,000 years. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The burial chamber is 4.52 to 4.8 metres long and 3.47 to 3.68 metres wide. In the burial chamber, archaeologists found an inner and outer coffin. More than 350 items were found during the excavation, including more than 100 pottery pieces, nearly 200 small jade jewellery pieces, bone tools and animal remains.

Most of the tomb owner's bones are missing, with only a few fragments remaining, and many artefacts were scattered and damaged.

This year, 45 tombs of the Dawenkou Culture were discovered at the Wangzhuang ruins, of which 27 have already been excavated. Some of them contain high-status artefacts, many of which also include pig jaws, according to Liu Haiwang, head of the joint archaeological team.

A total of more than 1,000 funerary items, including ceramics and jade wares, have been recovered from the Wangzhuang ruins this year. Liu said the fine ceramics and stone tools clearly demonstrate the level of productivity and division of labour of those times.
