China hosts the 8th BRICS Parliamentary Forum
Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), held the eighth BRICS Parliamentary Forum on Tuesday, 6 September. The Chinese politician urged the BRICS legislatures to play an active role in strengthening unity and deepening cooperation within the association. This is reported by Xinhua, a partner of the TV BRICS network.
Li Zhanshu noted in his speech that friendly exchanges between legislative bodies provide legal guarantees and political support for cooperation within the BRICS framework. He said China is ready to strengthen its cooperation with the legislatures of its member countries to further develop partnerships and promote recovery and sustainable development of the world economy.
He called on the BRICS legislatures to uphold impartiality and fairness to ensure peace and security.
Li Zhanshu also called on all parties to further strengthen coordination to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the UN.
He noted that exchanges between legislatures are an important part of BRICS cooperation. In this regard, the chairman of the SC of the NPC called for more communication on public administration and better quality legislation.
For his part, the president of the Brazilian Federal Senate (the upper house of parliament), Rodrigo Pacheco, said during the meeting that the BRICS countries were united in their desire for a more balanced world order. He stressed that the bloc's member states will continue the rapprochement.
High-level legislators from other BRICS countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa, attended the event.
Recall that the first BRICS parliamentary forum was held on 8 June 2015 in Moscow. In 2022, China is chairing the BRICS.
