China promotes high quality development of the cotton industry

China is the world's largest cotton producer, importer and consumer

China's cotton industry will continue to improve the quality of supply to generate new market demand and promote its own high-quality development, the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives (ACFSMC) said on Thursday, as reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

China is the world's largest producer, importer and consumer of cotton, as well as the largest exporter of textile and apparel products, said Sung-hee Lee, Chairman of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF), at the annual meeting of the cotton industry.

He called for efforts to promote product innovation in the textile industry, expand domestic demand and apply digital technology at all stages of development in the cotton industry to accelerate its modernisation.

He said efforts should also be made to optimise the distribution structure of cotton production, secure the supply of raw materials for the textile industry and continue to improve the sustainability and security of the cotton industry's production and supply chains.
