China's Ancient Shu Civilisation project enters new phase to uncover hidden relics

The findings are expected to provide critical insights into the functional and cultural significance of these artefacts

The new phase of the Ancient Shu Civilisation conservation and research project has officially commenced in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Over the next three years, archaeological teams will focus on unearthing unexplored areas of the Sanxingdui and Jinsha ruins, two key sites representing the height of the ancient Shu Kingdom, which mysteriously vanished around 2,000 years ago.

At a research institute in Guanghan City, experts and archaeologists are restoring and analysing bronze relics, including masks and artefacts with varying alloy compositions.

The findings are expected to provide critical insights into the functional and cultural significance of these artefacts. Multidisciplinary teams are now collaborating to further investigate these historically significant areas.

Researchers hope this phase will uncover new relics and broaden understanding of the ancient Shu Kingdom’s societal structures and cultural achievements.
