China’s computing power set to surge 40% as AI push intensifies

Beijing is accelerating investment in its computing infrastructure

China's intelligent computing power is projected to grow by more than 40 per cent in 2025, driven by the country's rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), according to Global Times, a partner of TV BRICS, citing forecasts shared at the China Computing Power Conference.

The country’s total computing power has already been expanding at an annual rate of around 30 per cent, with China now ranking second globally. Industry experts say this surge signals a shift towards large-scale, high-quality AI development, enabling innovation across sectors such as healthcare, education, smart cities, and agriculture.

According to the report, intelligent computing now underpins a wide range of real-world applications, from generative AI to precision agriculture. Over 23,000 innovative projects have emerged through national computing competitions, with adoption expanding rapidly in industries such as finance, energy, and public services.

To meet rising demand, China is accelerating investment in its computing infrastructure. Ten provincial platforms have been integrated into the national network, and domestic operators are maintaining investment growth above 20 per cent.

Officials say efforts are underway to optimise computing resource distribution, particularly between eastern and western regions. The government also aims to boost domestic production of advanced chips and expand support for foundational technologies critical to AI growth.
