China’s space oven marks breakthrough in orbital living

Astronauts aboard the China Space Station have successfully used a newly developed space oven to prepare freshly grilled food in orbit, marking a major step forward in improving living standards during long-duration missions. This is reported by Global Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

The device, designed specifically for microgravity conditions, enables smokeless and oil-free cooking through advanced temperature control, high-temperature catalysis, and multi-layer filtration technologies.

Engineers behind the innovation said the oven can operate safely for up to 500 cycles, meeting strict space station standards for emissions and energy compatibility. The design ensures even heat distribution and reliable performance, overcoming challenges such as weak thermal convection that have affected previous space-baking experiments abroad.

Space experts noted that this development goes beyond technology – it represents an evolution in the quality of life for astronauts on extended missions.

Compared with earlier experiments conducted on other international space platforms, where baking times stretched over an hour, China’s new oven can roast food in less than half an hour. Specialists say this demonstrates both superior efficiency and readiness for regular daily use rather than experimental trials.
