Chinese and Brazilian Presidents sign 20 cooperation agreements

Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who arrived in China on a state visit. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The leaders also attended the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, an intergovernmental cooperation platform between China and Latin American and Caribbean nations on 13 May.

At the bilateral talks, Xi Jinping said Beijing and Brasilia should increase bilateral contacts at various levels and more actively pair China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative with Brazil's development strategy. Among the most important areas of cooperation, the Chinese President named agriculture, energy, space, digital economy, artificial intelligence, and infrastructure.

In addition, Xi Jinping emphasised that China and Brazil, as two major developing countries of East and West, should strengthen coordination in the UN, BRICS, and other international platforms.

For his part, Lula da Silva said Brazil-China relations are based on mutual respect. He reiterated the country's willingness to engage with China in international affairs to work together to defend the interests of the Global South.

"I am sure that the example that Brazil and China are setting today will inspire future generations, because we are showing that building a more just world will allow us to create something different from what happened in the 20th century"

Following the meeting, the leaders signed 20 cooperation agreements in the fields of science and technology, digital economy, finance, agriculture, and other areas.
