Chinese scientists unveil advanced terahertz wave polarisation modulator

This new technology to enhance material property research and improve quality monitoring in biopharmaceuticals

A team of Chinese researchers has achieved a breakthrough in terahertz wave technology by developing a highly innovative polarisation modulator. This is reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.

This cutting-edge device, capable of precise and dynamic control of terahertz wave polarisation, holds immense promise for applications in next-generation wireless communication and non-destructive cultural heritage examinations, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Terahertz waves, occupying the frequency range between 0.1 and 10 terahertz, lie on the electromagnetic spectrum between microwaves and infrared waves. Known for their exceptional bandwidth and penetration capabilities, terahertz waves are seen as pivotal to advancements in wireless communication, material testing, and biomedical technologies.

The research team developed a device that can generate any desired polarisation state of terahertz waves, a capability that marks a substantial advancement over existing technologies, the source claims.

This new technology is expected to play a transformative role in multiple fields. It has the potential to enhance material property research, improve quality monitoring in biopharmaceuticals, and significantly reduce transmission losses while boosting data throughput in high-speed communication networks.
