Cuba's Ambassador to Russia considers the possibility of joining the BRICS
Russia and Cuba will celebrate 120 years of diplomatic relations in 2022. Julio Antonio Garmendía Peña, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation, spoke about the need to restore the flow of Russian tourists to the Republic and answered a question about the possibility of joining BRICS in an interview to Izvestia.
"Cuba maintains trade relations with the countries of the association, stressing the importance of cooperation with Russia and China in various sectors of the economy," the ambassador said.
According to Peña, since the BRICS countries account for 42% of the world's population and more than 16% of global trade, the trend towards expansion of the alliance offers the hope of achieving a multipolar world.
In June, Iran and Argentina applied to join the BRICS, and it was later learned that Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Algeria also want to join the BRICS.
