Days of Russian Spiritual Culture to be held for the first time in South Africa
The Days of Russian Spiritual Culture have begun in South Africa. The events are organised by ANO Russian Seasons, a partner of TV BRICS, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
During several days, concerts, exhibitions, lectures, and round tables will be held in a number of cities in South Africa. The TV BRICS International Media Network will be the media partner of cultural events.
The aim of this unique multi-genre project is to acquaint residents of foreign countries with the diversity and richness of Russian spiritual life.
The Days of Russian Spiritual Culture will open on 5 September in Johannesburg with a concert of Russian classical music. The programme includes works by Dmitry Shostakovich, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and Kuzma Bodrov. The same event will take place on 6 September on the stage of the Playhouse Company in Durban.
On the opening date of the Days of Russian Spiritual Culture, an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Novodevichy Convent opens at the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg. Visitors will see reproductions of artworks and photographs telling about the formation and life of the Orthodox monastery.
On 6 September, the University of South Africa in Pretoria will host a roundtable discussion on humanitarian cooperation between Russia and South Africa. During the discussion, philosophers, theologians, public figures, and representatives of the clergy will discuss the role of the cultural and historical heritage of Russia and South Africa in the context of contemporary bilateral relations.
On 7 September in Johannesburg, classics of Soviet and Russian animation will be shown. Workshops will also be held for the audience.
The programme will conclude on 8 September with a concert of choral and spiritual music in Johannesburg.
Since 2008, the Days of Russian Spiritual Culture have been held in 44 countries around the world. South Africa is hosting the event for the first time. At the end of September, the Days of Russian Spiritual Culture will be held in Ethiopia, and in November, in Cuba.
