Development of BRICS ties with other countries to be one of main topics at summit in South Africa
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov paid a visit to Eritrea where he met with his counterpart Osman Saleh Mohammed. During a joint press conference, the diplomats discussed to define Africa's place in the emerging world order, as reported by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Russian foreign minister said Africa has enormous potential and is the richest continent, including in terms of natural resources.
Lavrov mentioned that the Angolan president had earlier suggested to convening a summit of the African Union. According to the minister, the key theme of the event would be to define Africa's place in the emerging world order. This is primarily about economic development.
The Russian diplomat also stressed that similar trends can be seen in Latin America, where the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), due to the resumption of its work and the full participation of Brazil, is thinking about developing its own mechanisms of monetary and financial relations.
In addition, the Russian foreign minister said BRICS is a shining example of global multipolarity. According to the diplomat, more than a dozen states have shown interest in joining the group.

Eritrea is the finale of a tour that the head of Russian diplomacy has been conducting as part of preparations for the second Russia-Africa summit. The minister also visited South Africa, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) and Eritrea. The agenda of the forthcoming forum will consist of four sections: food and energy security, technology transfer and health.
