Egypt's Prime Minister approves amendments to the law on the vehicle import system for disabled drivers

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostfa Madbouly approved a draft decision that amends the provisions of the implementing regulation of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the amendments, people will be exempted from duties and value-added tax (VAT) on cars and personalised vehicles for people with disabilities The applicant must present a disability certificate and a comprehensive services card.

A medical certificate from specialised medical boards with the necessary data on the applicant's condition, as well as an indication of the ability to drive the vehicle either independently or with assistance, will also be required.

The imported vehicle must be owned directly by the person with a disability, excluding vehicles from free zones. Engine displacement must not exceed 1,200 cc for petrol, diesel or hybrid motors, and for electric vehicles the power output must not exceed 200kW. 

Applicants must confirm that they have not used a customs exemption in the last five years. In addition, they or immediate family members must have a bank account with an amount equal to the value of the vehicle one year prior to application. The vehicle must not be more than three years old.
