Egypt to host international squash championship amidst pyramids

Egypt is set to host the International Open Squash Championship from September 8th to 19th, as reported by MENA, a partner of TV BRICS. The tournament, recognised as one of the largest and most significant events on the Professional Squash Association calendar, will see world-class athletes compete for a prize fund.

According to the source, the tournament will return to the iconic Giza pyramid complex after a three-year hiatus, adding a unique backdrop to the later stages of the competition.

This year's event will feature 152 players from 29 countries, with equal representation from both men and women. These players will compete for a prize pool, distributed equally between the men's and women's events, further underlining the tournament's status as one of the most important on the international squash circuit.

The first round will commence on September 12th, followed by second- and third-round matches from September 13th to 15th at a specially constructed glass court at the Giza pyramids. The final stages of the tournament will then move entirely to the glass court in front of the pyramids.

The championship will culminate in its final phase, with quarter-finals held on September 16th and 17th, followed by semi-finals and the final on September 18th and 19th.

Organisers anticipate approximately 850 spectators in attendance, with a digital audience of over 150,000 following the tournament online worldwide, highlighting its global reach.
