Egyptian exports to African Union countries grow significantly

Trade relations between Egypt and African Union states totalled US$9.2 billion in 2023


Egyptian goods exports to the African Union increased significantly, reaching US$7.4 billion in 2023, compared to US$6.4 billion in 2022, an increase of 15.6 per cent. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The top exports were cement, gypsum and calcium phosphate, which totalled US$701 million (9.5 per cent of total exports). Plastics and related products came in second in value with US$574 million (7.8 per cent), while flour milling products totalled US$375 million (5.1 per cent).

In 2023, imports totalled $1.8 billion. Basically, five countries accounted for 82.6 per cent of total imports. The Democratic Republic of Congo led the imports with US$532 million (29.3 per cent), followed by Sudan (US$388 million or 21.4 per cent), Kenya (US$311 million or 17.1 per cent), Zambia (US$165 million or 9.1 per cent) and South Africa (US$101 million or 5.6 per cent). 

The main imports were copper and its derivatives (US$710 million or 39.1 per cent of total imports) and coffee, tea and spices (US$309 million or 17 per cent).
