Egyptian president pays official visit to India

The two countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has arrived in the Indian capital, New Delhi, for a three-day visit where he will be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations. This is a public holiday commemorating the date on which the country's constitution came into force on 26 January 1950.

The African leader will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including five ministers and other senior officials.

The Egyptian leader had previously visited India in October 2015 to attend the third India-Africa Forum summit and on a state visit in September 2016.

This year, the two countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

On Wednesday, 25 January, the incoming president will be welcomed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan presidential residence.

Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will hold meetings and delegation-level talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest and will be received by Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and interact with the Indian business community at a related event.

India and Egypt enjoy warm, friendly relations characterised by civil, cultural and economic ties. The two countries work closely together on international platforms and bilateral trade between 2021 and 2022, it has reached a record $7.26 billion.

More than 50 Indian companies have invested about $3.5 billion in various sectors of the Egyptian economy, including chemicals, energy, textiles, clothes, agribusiness and retail, as reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
