Ethiopia makes progress in its national enterprise support programme

The country's manufacturing output grew by more than 10 per cent last year

Ethiopia's Industry Minister Melaku Alebel said that the country has made significant progress in the implementation of the national enterprise support programme in the 2023-2024 fiscal year. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

During the annual review of the performance of state-owned companies and the presentation of the economic development plan for the next fiscal period, the minister highlighted the positive changes in the country's trade balance and the increase in production rates.

He said manufacturing currently contributes 39 per cent of the national GDP. The government is working to increase this to 60 per cent in line with the country's ten-year development plan.

The "Made in Ethiopia" programme, aimed at supporting local companies, already covers 96 industries and product lines, particularly in the textile, chemical and food sectors.

Thanks to these measures, the country's industrial production grew by 10.2 per cent last year and is expected to increase by more than 12 per cent next year.
