For the first time in 5 years, Russian ruble entered the world's most popular currencies rating

Russia has been promoting the currency as a means of international settlements with trading partners

According to July results, Russian ruble was included in the list of the world's 20 most popular currencies for the first time in 5 years. Its share in international settlements was 0.18%. The data has been provided by RIA Novosti with reference to information from the SWIFT interbank transfer system.

The report notes that the last time the national currency was included in a similar rating was in December 2016. Back then the ruble share was 0.26%.
According to Dmitry Babin, the "BCS World of Investments" expert, ruble's active promotion by Russia as a means of international settlements with its trading partners has led to such a positive scenario. It has been noted, that regular external transactions with the ruble allowed the Russian currency to get into the rating again.

Besides that, due to many countries refusing the dollar, its percentage is decreasing in the total volume of international payments, which allows to free space up for other currencies, including the ruble.

“Nevertheless, the dollar and euro are unlikely to significantly reduce their participation in global transactions in the foreseeable future, since the US and EU economies remain large and diversified enough to maintain their currenciels global status,” Babin said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
We will remind, that according to Alfa-Bank economists predictions, the dollar will cost from 78 to 80 rubles by the end of 2022.

Also the Central Bank has announced earlier that a number of private investors in the stock market has increased in Russia in the second quarter of this year. In the period from April to June the number of stockbrokers' clients has increased by 17% and amounted to 14.8 million.
