Foreign tourists bring record revenue to Brazil’s economy in 2025

More than 7 million travellers visited the country between January and September

International tourism continues to play a leading role in Brazil’s national economy in 2025. From January to September, foreign tourists brought the country US$6.09 billion, spending on accommodation, food, transport, leisure, and shopping. This is the highest figure ever recorded and 11.7 per cent more than in the same period of 2024, according to the website of the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism.

According to data from the country’s central bank, in September alone foreign travellers contributed US$604 million to Brazil’s economy. This is 12.4 per cent higher than the results for the same period last year.

“The central bank’s data reflect Brazil’s position as a leading destination for foreign tourists. As a result, the sector continues actively creating jobs and generating income for Brazilians,” noted Minister of Tourism Celso Sabino.

In addition, Brazil recorded a historic high in international tourist arrivals. In the first nine months of the year, the country was visited by 7,099,237 foreign citizens. This is 45 per cent more than in the same period of 2024. This result exceeds the annual target set in the national tourism plan for 2024–2027: the forecast for 2025 was 6.9 million tourist arrivals.

Interest among tourists in visiting different BRICS countries is growing. For example, the press service of the Russian Union of Travel Industry reported that after Beijing introduced a trial visa-free regime for Russians, demand for trips to China among travellers from Russia increased by 50–100 per cent.

In turn, Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS, published a report stating that more than 7 million foreigners visited Iran from March 2024 to March 2025, which is 15.93 per cent more than in the same period a year earlier.
