G20 Working Group on the International Financial Architecture opens in India
The first two-day meeting of the Working Group on the international financial architecture of the G20 under India's G20 chairmanship started in Chandigarh on Monday, 30 January.
Indian Minister of Agriculture, Narendra Singh Tomar, and Minister of Food Processing Industries, Pashupati Kumar Paras, will open the meeting. France and Korea will also participate in this meeting, as they are also co-chairing the International Working Group on Financial Architecture.
The Working Group on International Financial Architecture is an important activity of the G20 financial track and aims to address the many challenges faced by developing countries.
The two-day session will be attended by about 100 delegates from G20 member countries, invited countries and international organisations.
"On the meeting will be discussed the ways to improve the stability and cohesion of the international financial architecture and how to make it fit for solving the global challenges of the 21st century," the statement said. It is noted that the event will also focus on exploring ways to provide maximum support to poor countries.
In addition, on the margins of the meeting there will be a side event of the G20 called "Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs): Opportunities and Challenges". Its purpose will be to share experiences among countries.
During the Indian G20 Presidency, the Working Group will meet in March, June and September to further discuss the priorities set under the Indian Presidency.
India assumed the presidency of the G20 on 1 December 2022. During its presidency until 30 November 2023, it will hold more than 200 G20 meetings across the country. The G20 Summit at the Heads of State and Government level is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on 9 and 10 September 2023, as reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
