GITIS professors introduce Russian theatre art to Brazilian students

The organisers note the great interest in the project

The first GITIS School has completed its work in Brazil. The project was implemented jointly with the country's largest theatre school Teatro Escola Macunaima in Sao Paulo.

During the week, professors from the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts, a partner of TV BRICS, conducted lectures and training sessions for local students on acting, stage movement and speech, acrobatics and plasticity. The classes resulted in an open class on the play "The Cherry Orchard".

In addition, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo hosted lectures by Grigory Zaslavsky, Rector of GITIS, entitled "Stanislavsky's System in the XXI Century". The exhibition "Stanislavsky as an Actor" jointly with the Moscow Art Theatre Museum was also dedicated to the work of the great teacher.

"In the theatre everything significant is not born out of nothing, random luck is impossible, and Stanislavsky's method works and gives obvious outstanding results in the most different parts of the world," believes the rector of GITIS.

Grigory Zaslavsky also told about the development plan of the theatre institute. It is supposed to become a multidisciplinary international cultural and educational centre. This and other initiatives are part of the strategic project "New Russian Theatre 'Stanislavsky 2030.'"

The work of the GITIS School in Brazil has aroused interest from the local audience. At the same time the management of the university is going to expand its activities in the Latin American country. At a meeting with Ilya Zakharov, representative of the Russian House in Sao Paulo, the Rector discussed the prospects of working with the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation  (Rossotrudnichestvo) and the possibilities of developing educational initiatives in Brazil. In particular, the next GITIS School is planned to be held with an expanded programme and performances with the participation of local cultural and educational institutions.

"I will apply to Rossotrudnichestvo with a request for support in creating language courses. I want there to be opportunities to learn Russian in Brazil. The interest in this is huge! Only after the lecture in Sao Paulo three people expressed their desire to enter GITIS for different programmes"

Grigory Zaslavsky Rector of GITIS

Earlier, the InteRussia fellowship programme on theatre art for young artists from BRICS+ countries was held at GITIS.
