GITIS publishes thematic issue of magazine to mark Pushkin's anniversary

Readers can get acquainted with the latest productions, reviews and historical articles

Russian Institute of Theatre Arts GITIS, a partner of TV BRICS, has published an issue of the specialised publication "Theatre Magazine" dedicated to the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin.

The October "Theatre Magazine" traditionally tells about theatre premieres of the season. This time special attention is paid to productions based on the works of the Russian poet. The magazine includes reviews of performances by theatres in Astrakhan, Moscow, Samara, St. Petersburg, Ulyanovsk and other cities.

The readers' attention is also drawn to a large-scale historical block devoted to the productions of “Boris Godunov” by V. E. Meyerhold and V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. The authors of the articles have analysed extensive documentary material, presented by transcripts of rehearsals and newspaper articles of that era.

The magazine continues to work actively on the revival of genres that are leaving theatre criticism. The authors of this issue turn to such formats as the actor's portrait and the journey through a performance.

Ekaterina Danilova, acting editor-in-chief of "Theatre Magazine", said that the publication seeks to work with experts with different experiences and interests.

"'Theatre Magazine' consistently continues to invite theatre critics of different generations to be authors: both beginners and long-time practitioners, as well as real maestros of theatre studies," she noted.

"Theatre Magazine" has been published since 2023. The media is developing a printed version and website, and is present in social networks. The magazine attracts directors, actors, artists, teachers and students of theatre universities. The project is supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and the GITIS Fund for the Development of Theatre Education.
